Business Driver

Upgrade the current Cognos environment to the latest version. This will also involve the retirement of existing hardware and operating system. The user security also needs to be driven by AD instead of separately maintained Access Manager.

Selection Process

KPI was already handling the managed services of the client, given the good relationship with KPI Partners, client decided to take help from KPI in this project. Initially, the client wanted to have a blended shore delivery model, but ultimately this project was completely delivered by an offshore team.

What KPI Delivered

KPI did a small evaluation project before going into a full upgrade. KPI evaluated cloud and on-premise options for Cognos and found on-premise to be a more suitable option for the client. Since we are moving to a new version of Hardware as well, the KPI team defined the hardware requirements and worked with the infrastructure architects to set up the servers.

Security going forward was going to be driven by AD, hence the complete planning and design were provided for a seamless experience to the users. KPI team has upgraded about 1600 reports which are responsible for catering to about 600 users.

Business Benefits

The client is on the latest technology platform which is supported by IBM. Performance of the systems has increased. Security is now driven from an enterprise authentication provider instead of standalone.

Gateway to new capabilities like DQM, self-service dashboarding, rich visualization, etc. is open and these things can be turned around very quickly.
