OBIEE and SmartView integration – A Great Oracle BI / MS-Office Add-in

Oracle Hyperion SmartView for Office Integration.

SmartView is much more powerful than its well-known predecessor, the Hyperion Excel Add-In. It not only connects to Essbase, Hyperion Planning, and now to Oracle BI EE. The Smart View 11.1.2.2 Add-in replaces the Oracle BI Office Add-in as the primary Office application for Oracle BI Foundation. For benefit of the users, both are still available with OBI 11.1.1.7.

What is Hyperion Interactive Reporting (Brio)?

Interactive Reporting was originally developed by Brio Software and distributed under several names including Brio Query, Explorer, Insight and finally Intelligence. In 2003 Hyperion acquired Brio and the product became part of the Hyperion Performance Suite. The Brio software adds an intuitive user interface that supports query, reporting, and alerting capabilities that were lacking in earlier versions of the Hyperion Performance Suite.

Historical Data Conversion: Implementing Oracle BI Applications after an ERP upgrade

Many companies embark into the deployment of Oracle BI Applications soon after they go live with a new or upgraded ERP system.  A successful BI Apps deployment can bring in numerous benefits – the most notable is the data driven decision making in the organization. However, the success of the project depends a lot on having a good understanding of the challenges that are endemic to such BI deployments. These challenges require business decisions that must be made at the onset of the project to avoid the situation of over-promising and under-delivering.

I thought I’d post my presentation on QA (testing) that I delivered at the BIWA Summit near Oracle HQ in California. The presentation is based off of the recent QA posts I did on my personal blog, with a bit more silly graphics on top of it.  The one take away from the presentation is that some people prefer the term "testing" as opposed to QA.  Good to know.  Anyway, enjoy!
